What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, better known as CBD is a compound found in cannabis.
CBD does not contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive element in cannabis that produces a high.
Where Does CBD Come From?
CBD is one of over 100 chemical compounds named cannabinoid, which can be found in the strain of hemp called cannabis Satvia.
CBD vs THC
Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are two fundamental cannabinoids (naturally occurring chemicals) that can be found naturally within the cannabis plant. Whilst these dynamic cannabinoids come from the same plant family, the effects that they have on the mind and body differ.
THC and CBD both collaborate with receptors in the body that release neurotransmitters in your brain, affecting things such as pain, your mood, sleep cycle and memory.
THC unites with receptors – largely located in the brain – that affect pain, appetite & state of mind; hence why THC has the ability to give the feeling of euphoria, producing that so-called ‘high’ sensation
CBD on the other does not evoke any high. It does however interact with other elements within the body associated with feelings of well-being such as inflammation, depression, and migraines.
How Does CBD Work In The Body?
The discovery of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the 1990s has helped give us a greater understanding of the the affects of hemp derived CBD on your health and wellness.
The ECS is a physiological system, directly linked to all of the other systems in the body. Our brains, spinal cord, organs and skin all house ECS receptors; they can be found all throughout the human anatomy.
After ending the body, the cannabinoids found in the CBD element secure themselves to these receptors and help bring balance to the body and improve overall function.
Our bodies already produce these compounds and when we do, these are also called endocannabinoids.
Plants have a similar system within their composition of which produces a compound called phytocannabinoids.
In both circumstances, research has suggested that these natural compounds have the capabilities to reduce inflammation, boost your immune system, and reduce the effects of stress.
How Can CBD Help Me?
There are many potential benefits that can be obtained by consuming CBD, through both oral and topical usage.
With it only set to continue, the popularity of the CBD industry has seen worldwide growth with millions of people now incorporating CBD into their daily lives across the globe.
Through the way CBD interacts with our bodies, it is able to promote ‘balance’ helping support the body in many different aspects, with people using it for things such as its calming effects, its anti-inflammatory properties and to help improve sleep.
Every person is different. With that said, the effects of cannabinoids on an individual can vary as the endocannabinoid system regulates numerous systems. It ultimately depends on what your body needs at the time. For these reasons, there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to CBD and it is important for individuals to discover their own perfect equilibrium of CBD use.
How Do You Take CBD?
There are many ways of consuming CBD, with methods of alternative usage being developed all the time.
One of the most popular ways of taking CBD is sublingually (below the tongue). Holding the CBD drops under your tongue for around 60 seconds allows the fastest absorption as it diffuses through the membranes in the mouth, where there are a plethora of capillaries, providing a fairly direct route to the bloodstream. Dropping a few drops in your morning coffee or your protein shake is also a great way to consume CBD.
Along with orally, the benefits of CBD can be enjoyed topically. Many users have found great joy in applying CBD products directly to the skin, helping alleviate aches, and depress mild inflammation.
